Individual Therapy

From Ages 12 and up I provide individual counseling for a wide range of presenting problems. As a marriage and family therapist I take into account the impact relationships can have on an individual, even if those individuals are not in the room. My approach is collaborative and I adapt to each person to meet their needs. I believe strongly in the therapeutic relationship and it is very important that you or your family member feels safe and accepted. I have experience helping with the following: depression, anxiety, relational issues, identity problems, trauma, grief, parenting problems, and anger management.

Family Therapy

Sometimes we become entrenched in family patterns that wreak havoc on the whole family. I seek to understand the role of each family member and how each person plays into this pattern. My objective after this is to help your family achieve a better balance and a pattern that allows your family break through the difficulties you are experiencing.

Couples Therapy

We all face difficulties in our relationships. In couples counseling, I strive to meet each partner where they are at and help each person overcome any barriers that are impacting their relationship. Healthy individuals create healthy relationships and each partner working hard to be a better partner helps improve the relationship.

EMDR

EMDR is a method of therapy that focuses on symptom relief. It stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It can be useful in treating a variety of traumas. When we think of trauma we usually associate this with horrific events that have threatened someones life. However, there are different types of trauma. A different way to understand trauma is to break it down into two categories: trauma can be a big 'T' trauma where we experience intense fear for our lives or the lives of those we care for. Something that is life threatening. Or it can be a small 't' trauma that is soul threatening. This could be getting bullied, embarrassed, berated, etc. There are any things that threaten our identity our block our ability to be fully ourselves. We have all experienced these smaller traumas and often they build up and cause us unwanted symptoms. EMDR focuses on finding the root cause of these symptoms in the past and reprocessing them to gain symptom relief in the present. It utilizes focused imagination along with something called bilateral stimulation. Bilateral stimulation can be applied in a variety of ways and it stimulates the left and right side of the brain with the goal of processing the trauma with the whole brain.  I am trained in attachment focused EMDR which looks at the ways our past connections disrupt our ability to fully attach to and connect with others and ourselves in the present day.
